Passengers stranded on ropeway in Gujarat’s Pavagadh for over 30 minutes before being rescued

More than 40 passengers got stuck in bogies after the ropeway service to and from the famous pilgrimage center Pavagadh Dungar in Gujarat’s Panchmahal district developed a fault. This created a stir among the people. In fact, a cable from the aerial ropeway connecting the iconic Kalika Mata temple at Pavagadh got uprooted, leaving passengers stranded in 10 cabins at a height of 763 meters for over 30 minutes.

The incident took place on Friday evening and after that the investigation started. There is no report of any injury. But this incident has once again raised concerns about the safety of the ropeway system in Pavagadh. The accident happened shortly before the scheduled closing time of 8 pm. The track rope of the aerial ropeway managed by Usha Breco Company named ‘Udan Khatola’ got detached from the conveyor.

Passengers were left stranded in the air due to this incident. Their cabins dangled dangerously. The immediate concern was to ensure their safety and organize a successful rescue operation. The company launched repair and restoration efforts to deal with the situation.

Local authorities including police and fire brigade swung into action and used ropes and ladders to rescue the stranded passengers. The evacuation operation took more than 30 minutes, eventually all the persons were evacuated safely.

Preliminary speculation points to high winds as a possible factor in the incident. The matter is currently under investigation. As a precautionary measure, the ropeway has been temporarily closed for repairs.
