The incessant rains in Himachal Pradesh for the last 72 hours have created havoc all around. So far 58 people have died due to floods, cloudbursts and landslides, while 26 people are still missing. His search was still going on that now a terrible landslide has happened in the Vishnu temple area of Krishna Nagar, Shimla. In no time, 8-10 houses have become razed. One person has died in the accident, while more than half a dozen people are reported to be buried under the debris, whose search is on.

On the information of the accident, Himachal Pradesh CM Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu reached the spot and took stock of the situation. He supervised the relief and rescue work. Himachal Pradesh’s ADG (Law and Order) Abhishek Trivedi told that ITBP, SDRF, District Police and all other teams are present on the spot. There is a lot of debris there, because the debris that fell from above fell on the Municipal Corporation’s Clutter House, which is completely destroyed. We were told by people that cracks had already appeared in the area. Around 40-50 people were evacuated but we suspect around 5-10 people are trapped. Rescue operation is on.

Local corporator and eyewitness Bittu Panna told that we saw some cracks in the houses, others also gathered on the spot. We noticed that the cracks were increasing and requested the residents to evacuate their homes. Suddenly we saw many houses collapsing. Around 20-25 houses have been evacuated and around 50 people have been rescued and shifted to safer places. The rescue operation is going on in full swing on the spot.

Let us inform that 83 people have died due to heavy rains in Himachal from June 24 to August 14. There have been 112 incidents of landslides and 58 incidents of flash floods in the state, in which 1442 houses have collapsed. Four National Highways and 857 roads are closed in the state due to landslides and flash floods. Maximum 323 roads in Mandi and 234 roads in Shimla are blocked. 2610 power transformers in Mandi and 808 in Shimla are stalled. The state has suffered a loss of more than Rs 7170.85 crore so far this monsoon.
