Gayadin Ahirwar, president of the Kalpi Bar Association in Orai, was abducted over a land dispute and subsequently murdered; his assailants struck him on the head and face with a car jack inside a moving vehicle. His body was discovered on Sunday in a canal in the Gujaini area of Kanpur.

According to the police, Indrajit Yadav, a resident of Kanpur, orchestrated the murder by hiring Monu Yadav to carry out the act. Indrajit is currently in custody, while the prime suspect, Monu, remains at large. Two other suspects sustained gunshot wounds during a police encounter that took place while the authorities were recovering the vehicle used in the crime.

Harsh, the son of the victim—a senior advocate and resident of Kagzipura in Kalpi—had filed a kidnapping complaint against four unidentified individuals at the local police station on Saturday. According to Harsh, his father had been lured to the Durga Mandir intersection under the pretext of being handed a case file. As they arrived on a scooter, occupants of a white car—which lacked a number plate—forcibly pulled Gayadin into their vehicle and drove away. Superintendent of Police (SP) Suresh Chandra Rawat stated that the police had taken three suspects into custody on Saturday night. During interrogation, they confessed to murdering the advocate by striking him with a car jack inside the moving vehicle and subsequently dumping his body into the Gujaini canal. Acting on information provided by the suspects, the police recovered the body on Sunday morning with the assistance of the Gujaini police. The suspects are being questioned regarding the vehicle used in the crime. Meanwhile, Arvind Kumar, the acting in-charge of the Gujaini police station, noted that the advocate’s face had been struck multiple times, apparently in an attempt to disfigure him and prevent identification.

Lawyer Had Gone to Meet Clients

Harsh, the son of Gayadeen, recounted, “On Saturday, my father went to the Kalpi Tehsil office as he usually does, and later traveled to Orai for work-related matters. Around 4:00 PM, he called and asked me to come and pick him up. When I arrived, my father mentioned that some clients were coming and he needed to collect a file from them. He then asked me to take him toward the Durga Temple. I drove him there on my scooter. Four individuals were already waiting near the Durga Temple intersection in a white car—people I did not recognize. When my father asked for his file, they suggested, ‘Uncle, have some tea and snacks first; we’ll give you the file afterward.’ Under this pretext, they got him into their vehicle and drove off.”
