Employees at the Hisar depot of Haryana Roadways have been on an indefinite strike since 4:00 AM on Saturday. Under the banner of the ‘Sanjha Sangharsh Samiti’ (Joint Struggle Committee), the staff have been staging protests for the past 40 days to press for their demands.

Following the failure of talks with the administration on Friday evening, the employees decided to launch an indefinite strike. The blockade has disrupted the operations of approximately 260 buses from the Hisar and Hansi depots.

Early Saturday morning, the employees gathered at the main gate of the depot and took up positions. They prevented the buses from leaving the premises, bringing all bus operations to a complete standstill. A bus scheduled for Chandigarh in the morning was also blocked from exiting the workshop and bus stand. As a result of this agitation, passengers have been facing significant inconvenience since the morning.

The employees’ primary demands include the payment of night-halt allowances, travel allowances (TA), and overtime wages. They state that they have been raising these issues for a long time, yet their grievances remain unaddressed. In protest, the employees, led by the ‘Sanjha Sangharsh Samiti’, decided to initiate an indefinite strike and blockade.

Earlier, on Friday evening, discussions were held between representatives of the Roadways union and the administration, chaired by SDM Jyoti Mittal. However, the meeting proved inconclusive, as no consensus could be reached regarding the employees’ demands. Following the failure of these talks, the union proceeded with its previously announced plan to begin the strike and protests at 4:00 AM on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the Roadways administration is making efforts to resume bus operations. Rahul Mittal, General Manager (GM) of the Hisar depot, stated that the administration is working continuously to normalize the situation. In light of the inconvenience caused to passengers, discussions are underway in coordination with higher authorities and the district administration. The employees have announced that they will continue their agitation until their demands are met. Consequently, passengers traveling by bus from Hisar and Hansi may face difficulties.
