A major accident was narrowly averted late at night at a railway crossing in the Sejawata-Banjali bypass area of Ratlam district, Madhya Pradesh. A car became trapped between the railway track and the gate at Banjali railway crossing number 192 and was subsequently struck by the Valsad-Hisar Passenger train. Although the collision was forceful, fortunately, there were no casualties, and the driver of the car escaped safely.
Given the seriousness of the incident, Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Ashwani Kumar has ordered a high-level inquiry. It is reported that the Banjali railway crossing gate was being closed for an approaching train when a car became trapped between the track and the gate. At that moment, the Valsad-Hisar Passenger train (04728), arriving from the direction of Jaora, reached the spot and collided with the car. It is believed that because the train was moving at a low speed, the impact was limited, preventing a more catastrophic outcome.
The incident caused a stir in the area, with local residents gathering at the scene. Upon receiving the information, a railway rescue team arrived to assess the situation. The incident has raised questions regarding railway safety protocols and the operation of the crossing gate.
Senior officials of the Ratlam Railway Division took immediate action upon learning of the incident. DRM Ashwani Kumar has taken cognizance of the matter and ordered a high-level investigation. Both the railway administration and local police are currently examining the facts surrounding the incident. The investigation will determine the circumstances under which the car reached the track and why it ended up colliding with the train. Only after the investigation report is available will the causes of the accident and the issue of responsibility become clear.
