Police have initiated an investigation following the viral spread of an objectionable video on social media showing the molestation and mistreatment of a girl in Bihar’s Banka district. The incident reportedly took place at Mandar Hill, where six to seven unidentified youths are seen behaving inappropriately with the girl. The video has been circulating on social media for the past two days. Given the gravity of the matter, Bounsi police have registered an FIR against the unidentified youths and commenced legal proceedings.
Video received by Social Media Cell via WhatsApp
According to the police, the video was received by the social media cell via WhatsApp. Acting on instructions from senior officials, Bounsi Station House Officer (SHO) Pankaj Kumar Jha visited Mandar Hill with a police team to verify the location. Preliminary investigations confirmed that the video was indeed recorded at Mandar Hill.
However, police officials state that the video does not appear to be recent. Based on initial inquiries, it is suspected that the incident occurred in April of this year. So far, the police have been unable to identify the youths seen in the video.
FIR against 6-7 unidentified youths
The police registered a case at Bounsi police station based on a written complaint filed by SHO Pankaj Kumar Jha. A case has been registered against the unidentified accused under Sections 74, 75, 76, and 3(5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), as well as Sections 66E and 67A of the Information Technology Act. Investigators are questioning locals to identify the individuals seen in the video and to gather full details of the incident. The police have secured the video as evidence. Investigations are now underway regarding its origin, the identities of those involved, and the circumstances surrounding its recording and circulation on social media.
Police Appeal Against Sharing the Video
The police state that further legal action will be taken based on the investigation’s findings. They have appealed to the public not to share the video or any content that reveals the girl’s identity on social media.
This incident comes at a time when cases involving the mistreatment and molestation of girls have also been reported from the Jamui and Samastipur districts of Bihar.
