Leaders and ministers from the ruling party, alongside the opposition, are raising questions regarding the law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh. Amidst this, the murder of utensil trader Vinod Sahani in Gonda, UP, has heated up the state’s politics. In protest against the incident, Sanjay Nishad—a Cabinet Minister in the UP government and President of the Nishad Party—staged a sit-in at the post-mortem house of King George’s Medical University (KGMU). Subsequently, on Friday, he held another sit-in in Gonda, joined by hundreds of people.
The minister alleged that his own concerns were not being heeded. When Minister Nishad arrived in Gonda on Friday, police were deployed all around the Circuit House; he raised objections to this deployment as well.
Sit-in by Yogi’s Minister in Lucknow
Protesting against Vinod Sahani’s murder, Nishad Party President and UP Cabinet Minister Sanjay Nishad, Samajwadi Party Backward Class Cell President Rajpal Kashyap, and VIP Party leader Mukesh Sahani staged a sit-in outside the KGMU mortuary in Lucknow.
These three leaders, representing different political parties, were seen sitting in protest together. They demanded strict action in the case and justice for the victim’s family.
Demand for Strict Action Against the Guilty
The minister stated that democratic and legal processes should be followed if someone writes something objectionable or incorrect. He remarked that a murder resulting from a written statement is wrong and an impartial investigation into the matter is essential.

Demand for Financial Aid and Government Job for the Family
Describing Vinod Sahani as a founding member, campaigner, and ideologue of the Nishad Party, Sanjay Nishad paid tribute to his contributions. He stated that Sahni used to vigorously raise issues concerning the community and the party, and never hesitated to call out wrongdoing. One of Vinod Sahni’s key aspirations was to secure constitutional protection for the Nishad community. The Nishad Party will carry forward his unfulfilled dreams.
The Minister emphasized that the bereaved family should receive government benefits and financial assistance. He asserted that a dependent has the right to a government job following the death of the family’s breadwinner. Nishad declared that the community comes first for him, with the ministerial post taking second place; wherever injustice occurs against the Nishad community, he will continue to raise their voice at every level, from the streets to the legislature.
Details of the Incident
The incident took place in the Shahpur Dhanova area under the Paraspur police station limits in Gonda. Vinod Kumar Sahni (45) ran a utensil shop. On Wednesday night, around 10:30 PM, he was returning home after closing his shop, as was his routine. On the way, he was intercepted by some individuals.
It is alleged that Vinod was first assaulted and then attacked with a sharp-edged weapon. He sustained severe injuries in the attack. With the help of locals, he was taken to the Paraspur Community Health Centre (CHC) for treatment.
After receiving initial treatment at the Paraspur CHC, doctors referred him to the District Hospital in Gonda, noting the critical nature of his condition. As his condition did not improve at the District Hospital, doctors subsequently referred him to Lucknow for advanced medical care.
Vinod was admitted to King George’s Medical University (KGMU) in Lucknow. He was undergoing treatment there but passed away on Thursday.
