In Agra, Uttar Pradesh, the dilapidated state of a road turned a family’s joy into mourning. A government ambulance, transporting a woman in labor from Garhwar village in the Bah area to the hospital, got stuck in a pothole on a road damaged by rain.

It is alleged that the ambulance remained stuck there for nearly two hours. Villagers tried to pull the ambulance out using a tractor, but by then, it was too late.

The newborn baby girl died after reaching the hospital. The incident has sparked outrage among the family and local residents. The Sub-Divisional Magistrate has sought a report from the Public Works Department regarding the matter.

Ambulance Called After Onset of Labor

The incident reportedly took place on September 2 in Garhwar village, located in the Bah area of ​​Agra. Pradeep Singh’s wife suddenly went into labor, prompting the family to call a government ambulance. The ambulance set off for the hospital with the woman but got stuck on a rain-damaged road while leaving the village. According to the family, the ambulance’s wheel got caught in a pothole, making it impossible to move forward.

Ambulance Stuck in Pothole for Nearly Two Hours

According to the family’s complaint, nearby villagers made significant efforts to free the ambulance from the pothole. They attempted to pull it out by hitching it to a tractor. The ambulance remained stuck on the road for about two hours, causing a continuous delay in transporting the woman in labor to the hospital. Eventually, the ambulance was freed and the woman was taken to the hospital, but by then, the newborn’s condition had become critical.

Newborn’s Condition Deteriorated Before Reaching Hospital

After much struggle, the woman was taken to the hospital, but the family alleges that medical treatment was delayed because the ambulance failed to arrive on time and got stuck en route. Upon reaching the hospital, the newborn baby girl passed away. The news of the infant’s death plunged the family into deep grief. Following the incident, the aggrieved family lodged a complaint with officials, demanding action regarding the road’s condition and against those responsible for it.

Villagers Outraged Over Poor Road Conditions

There is anger among locals following the newborn’s death. Villagers allege that the road’s condition has deteriorated significantly after the rains, with large potholes dotting the stretch. Residents state that the poor state of the road causes constant hardship for the public. They have also questioned the quality of the road’s construction and maintenance, asserting that the situation could have been avoided had timely repairs been carried out.

SDM Seeks Report from PWD

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Vinod Kumar stated that a complaint regarding this matter was received during ‘Tehsil Diwas’ on September 5. The complaint has been forwarded to the Public Works Department (PWD), and a report on the entire matter has been sought from the department. According to the SDM, further action will be taken once the report is received. Meanwhile, the affected family has demanded action against those responsible for the road’s maintenance.
