The Delhi Police have arrested Swatantra Bhardwaj, the prime accused in the case involving Dalit student Nishu. The accused was planning to flee the country for Nepal, but the police acted swiftly and thwarted his attempt.

The Delhi Police arrested Hindutva ‘influencer’ Swatantra Bhardwaj from Bulandshahr, Uttar Pradesh, on Friday. This arrest came just hours after the Delhi Police had assured opposition party leaders that Bhardwaj—accused of attacking the father of a Dalit individual named Nishu—would be taken into custody within 72 hours. Several teams had been deployed to track down Bhardwaj, who describes himself as a ‘staunch Hindu’.
He wore a helmet to conceal his identity
Earlier, Swatantra Bhardwaj had set out on a motorcycle from Naithala village towards Khurja, wearing a helmet to hide his identity. Multiple police teams in plainclothes were deployed to locate him, and the police also questioned local journalists during the search.
In a viral video, Bhardwaj—who identifies as a ‘staunch Hindu’—was seen admitting that he had “cracked open the skull” of Sanjay Kumar (father of Nishu Azad) during a protest and had managed to avoid imprisonment despite the gravity of the offense.
On Friday, members of the ‘Cockroach Janata Party’ gathered at the Sansad Marg police station in the national capital to protest and demand action against Bhardwaj. The police assured the protesters that he would be arrested within 72 hours.
