The Jammu and Kashmir Police have registered a case against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Pulwama District President Shaukat Gayoor for allegedly demanding extortion money from a contractor through intimidation. The FIR was lodged on Monday night at the Newa police post in Pulwama based on a complaint by Mohammad Yasin Gani. Following this, the BJP suspended Gayoor from the party.
BJP leader threatened to implicate him in a false case
Gani accused the BJP leader of demanding five lakh rupees from him. He also alleged that he had paid ₹54,000 to the BJP leader in two installments last November. Gani claimed that Gayoor threatened to implicate him under the Public Safety Act (PSA) if his demand was not met.
BJP suspends Pulwama President Shaukat Andrabi
The Bharatiya Janata Party has suspended Shaukat Gayoor from all posts with immediate effect following the registration of an FIR against him on charges of extortion.
According to the suspension order issued by Mohammad Anwar Khan, BJP J&K State General Secretary and National Council member, this action was taken based on the recommendations of Advocate Sunil Sethi, Chairman of the party’s disciplinary committee. Consultations were also held with the party’s State President and MP Sat Sharma (CA) and General Secretary Mohammad Anwar Khan regarding this matter.
The order states that the party has decided to initiate disciplinary proceedings against Engineer Syed Shaukat Gayoor Andrabi following the registration of the extortion case. He will remain suspended from all organizational posts and responsibilities within the Bharatiya Janata Party—including the position of Pulwama District President—until the inquiry process is completed.
It is worth noting that Engineer Syed Shaukat Gayoor Andrabi had been playing an active role in strengthening the BJP organization in Pulwama district for several years. Discussions regarding this issue had intensified both within and outside the party following the registration of the FIR against him.
