Six people were killed and around 20 others injured when a private bus collided with a truck parked on the highway in Gujarat’s Vadodara district early Wednesday morning, police said.
According to the police, the accident occurred around 4 AM near Kotambi village on the Vadodara-Halol highway. Vadodara District Superintendent of Police Sushil Agrawal stated that the luxury bus, which was travelling from Rajasthan to Surat in Gujarat, rammed into the rear of the truck.
He explained that the truck was parked on the roadside and its driver was checking the tyre pressure when the speeding bus hit it from behind.
Agrawal said, “The collision was so severe that the front portion of the bus was completely mangled. Six people died in the accident, while about 20 others were injured. The injured have been admitted to hospitals.”
The official noted that most of the passengers on the bus were from Rajasthan. Upon receiving information about the accident, personnel from the Jarod police station in Vadodara Rural arrived at the scene and launched a rescue operation.
The Superintendent of Police stated that, given the extensive damage to the bus, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) were also called in to assist with the rescue efforts. He added that an investigation into the matter is underway.
