A massive fire that engulfed a hotel and restaurant in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar area on Wednesday morning has shaken the capital to its core. The blaze, which broke out in a building located in the Hauz Rani area, spread with such alarming speed that the entire complex was engulfed in smoke and flames in a matter of moments. According to preliminary reports, the tragedy has claimed the lives of 20 people so far, while several others are reported to be injured. The Delhi Fire Service received a distress call regarding the fire around 9:45 AM, following which multiple fire tenders and rescue teams were dispatched to the scene. Officials stated that during the rescue operation, approximately 20 people were evacuated from the building and transported to hospitals via CATS ambulances.

According to eyewitnesses present at the time of the incident, chaos ensued within the hotel and restaurant immediately after the fire broke out. Many people became trapped in the smoke, while some, in a desperate bid to save their lives, jumped from windows and upper floors. Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire likely originated in the restaurant operating on the ground floor. However, the exact cause of the blaze remains unclear. Teams from the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the Delhi administration have arrived at the site and have initiated an inquiry into the entire incident.

Jitendra Kumar, an SDM and DDMA official, stated that the Emergency Operations Center was alerted immediately upon receiving information about the incident. He added that all relief agencies were directed to reach the scene without delay. The intensity of the fire was such that fire personnel faced significant challenges during the rescue operation. Several individuals were successfully evacuated from the basement and the upper sections of the building. The administration is now investigating whether the building had adequate fire safety arrangements in place.

This tragic incident has once again raised serious questions regarding fire safety standards in Delhi’s commercial establishments. Local residents allege that many restaurants and hotels routinely flout safety regulations. Meanwhile, the police have registered a case, and the process of identifying the deceased is currently underway. This major tragedy in the capital has cast a pall of grief and panic over the entire locality. Priyanka Gandhi Expresses Grief Over Malviya Nagar Fire Tragedy
