An eight-year-old girl who attended a friend’s birthday party was allegedly raped and then murdered by a man in Maharashtra’s Palghar district, a police official said on Wednesday that they have arrested a 21-year-old former sarpanch in this connection. The son has been arrested.
A girl living in a village in Mokhada taluk went to a friend’s birthday party in the village on Sunday but did not return home. After this, his family members searched for him.
Assistant Inspector of Mokhada Police Station Premnath Dhole said that the body of the girl was found near a graveyard in the village late on Sunday night. The police have sent his body for post-mortem and started investigation. He said that an investigation team of the police acted on several information and arrested the accused on Tuesday.
He said that the accused allegedly stalked the girl on Sunday and then raped her and killed her at night.
According to the police, the mother of the accused was a local councillor. Dhole said that the accused was charged under Sections 103(1) (murder), 65(2) (rape of a girl below 12 years) and 66 (punishment for death) and protection of children from sexual offenses of the Indian Penal Code. A case has been registered under the provisions of (POCSO) Act.
