A 4.9 magnitude earthquake struck the Dantola area of Bajhang district in western Nepal’s Sudur Paschim Province on Thursday. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring Center, the earthquake was recorded at 1:08 am.

In addition to Bajhang, the earthquake tremor was felt in Bajura, Baitadi, and Darchula districts. At present, no casualties or damage have been reported.
Bajhang district is located about 475 kilometers west of Kathmandu. Nepal falls in active seismic zones four and five, making the region highly vulnerable to earthquakes. Several earthquakes occur in the country every year, but most do not cause serious damage.
