Sub Divisional Police Officer (Sonamura) Shashi Mohan Debbarma said that first of all a laborer went down to clean the well, but after a long time when he was not found, other laborers also went into the well after him. After some time all three laborers were found unconscious in the well.

Three people died after inhaling ‘poisonous gas’ while cleaning a well in Sipahijala district of Tripura. Police gave this information on Sunday. According to the police, the incident took place in the Neoramura JB School premises. Villagers of Sonamura had launched a well cleaning drive due to water shortage in the area.
Sub-divisional police officer (Sonamura) Shashi Mohan Debbarma said that first one worker went down to clean the well, but after a long time when he was not found, other workers also followed him into the well. After some time, all three workers were found unconscious in the well.
He said that the rescue team was sent to the spot. All three workers were taken to the hospital, where doctors declared them dead.
Debbarma said, “It seems that there was poisonous gas in the well and they died due to suffocation. The real cause of death will be known only after the post-mortem report comes.”
