A major road accident took place during the Ganesh Visarjan procession at around 10:30 pm on Tuesday night in village Jurudand of Bagicha police station area of Jashpur district of Chhattisgarh. A speeding Bolero suddenly ran over a crowd of devotees going towards the pond. The incident was so horrific that three people died on the spot, while more than 22 people were injured. The condition of more than a dozen of them is said to be critical.
Eyewitnesses described the horrific scene
Tankeshwar Yadav, who gave eyewitness testimony, said that the Bolero was moving at such a high speed that it trampled the crowd and threw many people in the air. After the accident, the angry crowd caught hold of the driver and beat him up. At the same time, other people in the vehicle fled from the spot. The police have taken both the Bolero and the driver into custody. According to the information, the vehicle was going from Ambikapur to Kunkuri.

More than 25 people including Fakir Yadav, Neelu Yadav, Niranjan Ram, Sandeep Yadav, Narayan, Devanti, Gulapi Bai, Yahusu Lakra, Santosh Prajapati, Hemant Yadav, Uma Yadav, Bhuvaneshwari Yadav, Chanda Bai, Pinky, Lilavati Prajapati, Damrudhar Yadav, Gayatri Yadav, Aarti Yadav, Parmanand Yadav, Abhimanyu, Hemanand and Bolero driver Sukhsagar were injured in the accident.
