Angry mobs set fire to the local parliament building in an Indonesian provincial capital, killing at least three people and injuring five others. The fire was set late Friday in Makassar, the capital of South Sulawesi province. Television reports showed the provincial council building burning overnight.

Rescue workers had recovered three bodies by Saturday morning, while five people were hospitalized with burns or broken bones after jumping from the building, local disaster official Fadli Tahar said.

Protesters in the West Java city of Bandung also set a regional parliament on fire on Friday, but there were no reports of casualties. In Surabaya, Indonesia’s second-largest city, protesters stormed the regional police headquarters after destroying fencing and setting vehicles on fire.
