Violence continues in Manipur. Kuki militants attacked a CRPF battalion at midnight on Friday, killing two soldiers. Both these soldiers belonged to the 128th battalion of CRPF deployed in Naransena area of Bishnupur district of Manipur.

Two Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers have been martyred in a midnight attack by alleged Kuki militants in Naransena area of Manipur, while several soldiers have been injured in the attack. These soldiers belong to the 128th battalion of CRPF deployed in Naransena area of Bishnupur district of the state. Manipur Police informed about this attack and said that this attack happened at midnight. Let us tell you that voting for Lok Sabha elections took place in Manipur on Friday. This attack took place a few hours after the voting ended.
A senior police officer said, “The militants targeted the post and fired indiscriminately from the hill tops. The firing started around 12:30 in the night and continued till around 2:15 in the night. The terrorists also threw bombs, one of which exploded in the post of 128 battalion of CRPF. CRPF soldiers were deployed to protect the IRBN camp. Police said that a massive search operation is being conducted to trace the people involved in the attack.
Four soldiers were injured in the blast. They were immediately taken to the hospital, where two of them died. Other injured soldiers are undergoing treatment, whose condition is said to be critical.
Voting took place on Friday
Manipur Chief Electoral Officer, Pradeep Kumar Jha on Friday reported high turnout and incidents of violence in outer Manipur in the second phase of Lok Sabha elections. Manipur’s Chief Electoral Officer said, “Till the last report we received about an hour ago, the voting percentage was between 75 per cent and no major irregularities were reported.”
He also said that during the second phase of voting, people came out in large numbers to exercise their franchise. One incident of electronic voting machine (EVM) malfunction was reported at a polling station and no major malfunction was reported.
“Outer Manipur parliamentary constituency, 13 assembly constituencies… Voting remained peaceful… One incident of damage to EVMs has been reported so far.” Jha further said that voting in the Outer Manipur constituency was relatively higher compared to the 2019 elections. It was peaceful. “People have come in large numbers. “Compared to previous elections, the elections in Outer Manipur have been very peaceful…Despite one or two incidents, nothing major has happened and the turnout has been very encouraging.”
Earlier, re-polling was held at 11 polling stations in the Interior Manipur constituency on April 22 after several incidents of violence were reported during the first phase of voting on April 19.
The first phase of voting for the seven-phase general elections was successfully conducted on April 19 in 102 constituencies across 21 states and union territories. According to the Election Commission, the total voting in the initial phase was recorded at more than 62 percent. The next round of voting will take place on May 7. Counting of votes and results will be declared on June 4.
