Guillain-Barre syndrome or GBS virus is wreaking havoc in Pune, Maharashtra. So far, 183 patients have been treated for GBS, while 28 cases are suspected of GBS. 11 people have died due to this disease. Out of which 4 deaths are being attributed to GBS, while 7 deaths are suspected.
Out of these patients, 42 patients are from Pune Municipal Corporation, 94 patients are from Pune Municipal Corporation area, 32 patients are from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation, 33 patients are from Pune rural area and 10 other districts. So far 144 patients have been discharged from the hospital, while 36 patients are admitted in ICU and 16 patients are on ventilator.
Earlier on February 12, Health Minister Prakash Abitkar had said about the increasing cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome (GBS) in Maharashtra, “When the number of patients increased in Pune due to GBS, people were very worried. GBS patients have been in Maharashtra for a long time. We are able to control the continuous increase in the number of patients. There is no need to be afraid of this disease. I think there is no need to compare it with Corona.”
On January 29, amid the outbreak of GBS, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had asked the administration to make special arrangements in government hospitals for the treatment of patients.
