In fresh incidents of violence, two rural volunteers were killed and five others injured after their makeshift camp was attacked in the border areas of Manipur’s Kangpokpi and Imphal West districts on Tuesday. Police gave this information.

According to police, armed cadres of a rival group attacked the camp of village volunteers near Kadangband village, killing village volunteer N. Michael (33) and M. Khaba (23) died. The injured persons were admitted to the Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Imphal for treatment.

The two sides reportedly reunited after an hour, but the fierce encounter broke out again on Tuesday night, sources said.

Sources said that after the incident, a large number of people including women, children and elderly people from Kadangband and neighboring Kautruk villages fled to safe areas. Security forces have reached the area to control the situation.
