A shocking news has come out from Haridwar district of Uttarakhand. 15 prisoners have been found HIV positive in a health checkup camp organized in the district jail. As soon as this information was received, there was chaos in the jail and police administration. The administration took immediate action and separated these prisoners from other prisoners and their treatment has been started.
Medical camp was held on 7 April
A medical health camp was organized in Haridwar jail on 7 April in which medical examination of all the prisoners lodged in the jail was done. During this time, the HIV report of 15 prisoners came positive. Senior Jail Superintendent Manoj Kumar Arya confirmed this and said that these prisoners have been kept under special surveillance and shifted to a separate barrack.
Such a case has come to light earlier also
This is not the first time that HIV positive prisoners have been found in Haridwar jail. In the year 2017 also, 16 prisoners were found HIV positive during a similar medical test. The administration has become alert due to the reappearance of such cases and now medical examination is being planned from time to time.
More than 1100 prisoners, now vigilance increased
There are currently more than 1100 prisoners in Haridwar District Jail. In such a situation, special precautions are being taken to prevent the spread of HIV infection. The jail administration said that along with the treatment of prisoners found positive, other prisoners are also being made aware so that no fear or confusion spreads.
Steps taken to prevent infection
A separate barrack has now been built in the jail where these HIV positive prisoners have been kept. Also, the medical staff has been specially instructed to constantly monitor these prisoners and keep checking from time to time. Other prisoners are also being given information related to HIV so that they take precautions.
Awareness efforts are also being made
The jail administration said that many awareness campaigns will also be run in the jail regarding HIV infection. Its purpose is not only to make the prisoners aware but also to make the jail staff sensitive towards it.
