RUSHLAM: Health officials in Gaza said 104 Palestinians were killed and 280 wounded in Israeli firing on people waiting for aid near Gaza City, with a hospital saying it had found 10 bodies and dozens of injured patients.
An Israeli military spokesman said there was no information about shelling at that location. The army later said that dozens of people were injured as a result of being pushed and crushed when aid trucks arrived in northern Gaza.
An Israeli source said that soldiers opened fire on “several people” in the crowd who posed a threat to them. The office of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas said he “condemned the terrible massacre carried out by Israeli occupation forces against people waiting for aid trucks at the Nabulsi intersection this morning.”
Gaza Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said the incident occurred at the al-Nabusi intersection, west of Gaza City, in the northern part of the enclave. Kidra said medical teams were unable to deal with the extent and severity of injuries of the dozens of injured people who arrived at al-Shifa hospital.
Hussam Abu Safiyah, head of Kamal Adwan hospital in Gaza City, said they had found 10 bodies and dozens of injured patients from the incident west of the city. “We don’t know how many people are in other hospitals,” Safiyah told Reuters by phone. Hamas warned in a statement that the incident could lead to the failure of talks aimed at reaching an agreement on a ceasefire and the release of hostages.
“The negotiations undertaken by the movement’s leadership are not an open process at the cost of the blood of our people,” it said, referring to Thursday’s deaths and adding that Israel would be responsible for any failure of the talks.
